Game Club 2: Learning Through Play at Clube dos Brasileirinhos
In our Game Club 2, led by teachers Stéfany and Diana, learning happens in a creative, collaborative, and imaginative way.
This term, our students developed an amazing project by redesigning a board game with their own rules, characters, and dynamics. Inspired by the world of detective games, they created the story, drew the board, designed the cards, and modelled the characters with modelling clay. Afterwards, they played together and, with plenty of adventure, managed to solve the mystery of the game.
Throughout the project, the children developed a range of important skills. They exercised creativity and imagination in building the narrative, practiced writing while creating the rules and game cards, expanded their vocabulary, and strengthened their oral communication during group discussions. They also practised cooperation, negotiation, problem-solving, and strategic thinking while testing and refining the rules they had created themselves.
The project also had a significant impact on socio-emotional development. The children learned to listen to others, respect different opinions, manage frustration, take turns, and celebrate team achievements. The game became a safe space to practise empathy, autonomy, and confidence.
In addition, it was a wonderful way to strengthen heritage language skills. The entire process took place in Portuguese, promoting reading, writing, attentive listening, and meaningful communication in an engaging and motivating context.
At Clube dos Brasileirinhos, we believe that learning should be a lively, participatory, and meaningful experience.
Our motto perfectly sums up this approach: Come and learn Portuguese through play. 💛💚💙
